Public schools in urban communities with a large population of African-Americans are being shut down by the masses. Black history month is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past in public schools. In fact, most teachers focus on the same iconic figures each year (e.g. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, etc.), as opposed to expanding the depth of Black history and teaching the youth about some of our most fierce pioneers. When Black history is discussed in American History classes around the nation, it merely touches on the cruelties of slavery , failing to discuss the advancements of Black culture after slavery.
